Nathan Layne has been a Paramedic for Allina Health EMS (AHEMS) since 2013. The past several years, he has been working as an Operations Supervisor, leading employees and ambulance operations within our North Metro 911 system. Nathan also worked as a firefighter for one of the local fire departments in the North Metro suburbs.
In his role as a Supervisor, Nathan saw areas of opportunity for improvement: in safety reporting, mentorship of students, the process for employees returning from a leave of absence, and an inconsistency in large scale event operations. He took action on these opportunities. He developed a safety reporting system so employees can report issues they deem unsafe. He took the lead on our mentorship program for students and for employees coming back from leaves, that serves as guidance more than evaluation. Lastly, AHEMS is in the midst of moving forward his development of a Special Event Team made up of dedicated EMT’s and Paramedics with specialized training in large scale event operations and mass casualty medicine.
Nathan has built his framework of EMS leadership around community connection. He is the EMS Commander for one of our largest events, the 3M Open PGA tournament at the TPC in Blaine. He has served as EMS command at various concerts such as the Zac Brown Band PGA Concert and KTIS Christian Music Festival at the National Sports Complex in Blaine.
In Nathan’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Amanda, daughter June and son Charlie. The family enjoys cabin time, fishing in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. Nathan also enjoys grilling and smoking meat on his Traeger.
Thank you Nathan, for all you do to support your employees, EMS, the communities and the patients that we serve.
