Sam’s journey in EMS began in 2015, driven by a deep commitment to serving others. Prior to joining Allina Health EMS in August 2019, Sam gained valuable experience with AMR New Haven in Connecticut and North Branford FD. Quickly establishing themselves as a Critical Care Paramedic at Allina, Sam demonstrated exceptional skill and compassion, leading to a promotion as a Field Training Officer in both the ALS and Critical Care divisions. In addition to these roles, Sam is a dedicated member of the Bike Team and serves as a mentor for aspiring EMT and Paramedic students, showcasing their passion for teaching and nurturing future caregivers.
A remarkable aspect of Sam’s character is the unwavering dedication to putting patients first. Last year, Sam encountered a situation in the ER involving a patient who had been waiting for hours to be transferred to an in-patient hospital bed. Taking the time to engage with ER staff, Sam discovered that the patient required a critical care resource due to the medication they were on. With great empathy and determination, Sam coordinated with dispatch to ensure the appropriate adjustments were made, advocating for the patient’s needs. This incident highlights Sam’s commitment to prioritizing patient well-being above all else.
Beyond Sam’s role in EMS, Sam brings compassion to the community as the Safety Director for Roller Derby. Sam also has a heartfelt passion for fostering dogs in the limited free time available. Allina Health EMS wholeheartedly believes that Sam embodies the very essence of what it means to be a Star of Life, and we are incredibly proud to have Sam as part of our team.
