Sue Sather is the 2025 Star of Life for CCM Health Ambulance because of her unsurpassed devotion to EMS in Montevideo for the last 45 years.  With her high level of energy and enthusiasm, she has helped shape the ambulance service into the success that it is. As the Lead EMT, she directs operations through the challenges of today with compassion, experience and understanding.  She is an outstanding example of longevity and leadership.

Through more than four decades of EMS calls, there are more lifesaving instances than there is time for, however, the influence she has had on the community as a mainstay is of greater value. When asked about memories of EMS experiences, she said, “Most vividly, I remember delivering twins, in a bathtub, miles out of town during a snowstorm.”

Sue has been married to her husband, Mark, for 46 years. She has three adult children, four grandchildren, four grand puppies, and a sassy grand cat. Sue’s the matriarch of the family, always in the know and always in control. She thrives under pressure and chaos and can fly by the seat of her pants, confident in her star of life knowledge.

Entertaining the idea of retirement, she hasn’t slowed down yet. She banks on visiting patients, being involved, utilizing all hours of the day to help people. A metastatic triple negative breast cancer diagnosis has yet to stop her from doing what she loves to do. She’ll continue to shine her light, maybe recharge the batteries, but will shine on.
