Matthew VanGrinsven joined our family at North Memorial Health Ambulance – Park Rapids/Walker Region around a year and a half ago. From day one, Matt has demonstrated exceptional dedication, skill, and a deep commitment to patient care. Matt’s passion for emergency medical services quickly set him apart, and it was not long before he stepped into the role of Field Training Officer, helping shape the next generation of emergency medical technicians and paramedics with the same professionalism and excellence he brings to every call.
Matt recently went above and beyond the call of duty—not in an ambulance this time, but with a toolbox in hand. He noticed an elderly community member struggling with their wheelchair ramp. The ramp was in disrepair, causing the wheelchair to get stuck and tip over whenever they tried to use it. The ramp made every trip in and out of the house a dangerous challenge, with the constant risk of tipping over.
Instead of just offering sympathy, Matt took action. He gathered supplies, enlisted a few helping hands, and spent the afternoon repairing the ramp. By the time they were done, the ramp was repaired and—most importantly—safe.
This is the kind of dedication that defines true emergency responders. It’s not just about responding to 911 calls; it’s about seeing a need and stepping up, no matter the time or place. Matt’s kindness didn’t just fix a ramp—he restored another’s safety, independence, and peace of mind.
