In 1999, Helen Husfeldt finally gave in to a friend’s urging and became an EMT with Henning Ambulance Service. Twenty-five years later, her dedication to EMS is unmatched.
A full-time LPN at a local nursing home, Helen has devoted thousands of hours to EMS, serving as a mentor and leader. Known as "Momma Bear" to her crew, she takes every opportunity to train and support new EMTs. Since 2005, she has also served as co-director, managing scheduling, restocking, and supply orders to keep the service running smoothly.
Throughout her career, Helen has experienced both the challenges and rewards of EMS. She recalls one call where she and her partner saved a man who had gone into cardiac arrest after falling from a ladder. Though his wife later passed away from heartbreak, their efforts gave him a second chance at life.
Helen’s dedication extends far beyond her official duties—she regularly provides 200-250 hours of shift coverage each month while balancing her full-time job.
When she does find time off, Helen enjoys road trips with her two dogs, Kiser and Kirby, as well as bowling, watching Vikings football, and spending time with her sisters.
Henning Ambulance Service is honored to recognize Helen for her unwavering commitment to EMS and proudly nominates her as a 2025 Minnesota Star of Life recipient.
