Minnesota Ambulance Association Celebrates Leadership Transition and Historic Appointment

Minneapolis, MN - March 11, 2024 - Following the Board of Directors meeting on March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day, the Minnesota Ambulance Association is thrilled to announce a historic leadership transition, underscoring a strong commitment to diversity and excellence within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) sector. In a landmark vote, Susan Long was elected as the new President-Elect of the association, marking a momentous occasion in the association's history.

Susan Long, the President of EMS for Allina Health EMS, brings to the position an impressive 43 years of dedication and experience in EMS. Her appointment as President-Elect not only celebrates her remarkable career but also signifies the association's dedication to recognizing and advancing the role of women in leadership within the EMS community.

The association is also pleased to announce that Michael Juntunen, Coordinator for Community Paramedicine with Mayo Clinic, will take on the role of President, bringing forward-thinking leadership and extensive knowledge to the forefront of the association's initiatives.

Joining the leadership team, Tom Dunn, Deputy Chief of EMS with M Health Fairview, steps into the Vice President role, bringing his own 33 years of invaluable experience in EMS. His deep expertise and leadership skills are expected to contribute significantly to the association's goals and initiatives.

John Fox, serving as the Interim Assistant Director with Dodge Center Ambulance, will continue his role as Secretary/Treasurer, providing continuity and steadfast dedication to the administrative efficiency of the association.

The Minnesota Ambulance Association extends its deepest gratitude to Joe Newton, EMS Senior Director at Essentia Health EMS, for his unwavering service as President, and Dane Meyer, Supervisor with North Memorial ambulance, for his dedicated service as Vice President. As Newton transitions to the role of Immediate Past President, the association acknowledges his significant contributions and leadership during his term. We are equally excited about Meyer’s continued involvement as Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee, where we are confident that his expertise and passion will greatly contribute to our advocacy efforts and legislative initiatives. Dane's ongoing commitment to the EMS community is truly commendable, and we look forward to his future contributions in this vital capacity.

This dynamic leadership team is set to lead the Minnesota Ambulance Association into a promising future, focusing on innovative policies, enhanced partnerships, and the overall advancement of emergency medical services to better serve the communities across Minnesota.
